German National Day celebration in Pretoria
On September 28 Ambassador Kampmann welcomed over 600 guests to his residence in Pretoria to celebrate the Day of German Unity, the German National Day.
Enlarge image Embassy staff and a choir from Mamelodi (© German Embassy Pretoria) At the Ambassador’s residence in Pretoria guests were able to have their photo taken in a photo booth with iconic German landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate as a backdrop.
Against the backdrop of the Embassy’s mascot VW bus, KhombiSA, the artists Ayanda Jiya and Sir LSG performed together with the German DJ Ralf GUM.
Embassy staff in conjunction with a choir from Mamelodi sung the national anthems of Germany and South Africa. The Anthem of Europe, Ode to Joy was performed as well.

Ambassador Kampmann underlined DJ GUM's significance, saying he ''really admire(s) him for his cooperation with up and coming South African artists.''
The guest of honour, South Africa’s Minister of Communications, Ayanda Dlodlo emphasized the significance of German-South African cooperation and friendship in her address. “Germany and South Africa have very close bilateral relations on trade, culture and politics,” said Minister Dlodlo.

About the Day of German Unity
The Day of German Unity (October 3) commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990 and has been the German national day since. Each year the Day of German Unity is celebrated with a ceremonial act and a citizen’s festival (Bürgerfest). This year’s host city is Mainz, the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition there are festivities in the German capital Berlin.
