President of the German Church Day visits South Africa
Germany is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation this year with a series of public events, exhibitions and lectures. Professor Christina Aus der Au, the president of the German Church Day, is in South Africa this week to meet church leaders and engage in debates about the role of the Protestant church 500 years after the Reformation.

Professor Aus der Au will come together with pastors from the German-speaking community in South Africa, meet with the bishop of the Evangelic-Lutheran Church in Soweto, as well as withrepresentatives of the Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa (LUCSA) and with the president of the South African Council of Churches (SACC).
She will visit the Hillbrow Outreach Foundation in Johannesburg and engage in debates with learners at the German International Schools in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
On October 18, Christina Aus der Au will give a public lecture at the Johannes Church on “Religion and Politics – 500 years of reformation and public responsibility of the churches in Germany and South Africa”. The presentation starts at 19h00 and will be followed by a panel discussion.
