Germany at the National Science Week

Over 5000 guests witnessed the opening of the annual National Science Week (NSW) at the University of Johannesburg's Soweto Campus on 28 July. South African Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, the University of Johannesburg's Vice Chancellor Prof. Ihron Rensburg and German Ambassador Dr. Horst Freitag were among the prestigious event's speakers. The theme of this year's NSW is "The Role of Science in Economic Development", and in keeping with this, the focus was on the importance of science, technology and education in people's daily lives. The German Embassy, the Germany Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and several German companies were present at the accompanying science expo and drew large crowds of eager young learners and scholars.
