Funding for implementing creative ideas in applied research

Jan 4, 2012

The Fraunhofer Attract funding programme offered by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft gives researchers the chance to develop their ideas into an application, thereby opening up a career path in industry-related research or within a company.

A budget of 2.5 million Euro is made available to the scholarship holders over a period of five years in order to set up and manage their own research group.

In concrete terms, the programme is aimed at researchers from Germany and abroad who already have post-doctoral research experience.

Researchers who wish to apply for a grant from the programme must coordinate their application with the director of the institute at which the research is to be subsequently based.

Proposals for the next round of the Fraunhofer Attract programme must be submitted by 27 May 2012. Projects begin in July 2012.

The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft

Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application- oriented research organization. Its research efforts are geared entirely to direct utility in private and public enterprise and wide societal benefit: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by Fraunhofer researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives. There are 80 research units, including 59 Fraunhofer Institutes, at different locations in Germany. The total research budget is 1.6 billion Euro annually, of which only one third is contributed by the German federal and state governments.
