Having already won every UEFA European trophy on offer (UEFA Cup, Champions League and Cup Winner's Cup), FC Bayern Munich already belonged to a privileged group of clubs even before making history in this season's competition. In reaching the final in their own stadium, Bayern broke new ground in the Champions League, becoming the first team to do so in the 20-year lifespan of the tournament.

Germany's Bayern Munchen football club secured their spot in the UEFA championship finals on April 25 in a dramatic victory over Spanish club Real Madrid. Although packed with some of football's shooting stars and winning coach Jose Mourinho, Real could not out-perform the German side. The final will take place on Bayern's home pitch, the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Introducing hunger project

Germany's professional soccer league, the Bundesliga, is participating with 22 other European leagues in Match Day Against Hunger to spread the call for urgent action in the Sahel region. The project is being highlighted and publicised at more than 150 stadiums across Europe from March 30-April 2.

Munich is Candidate City for 2018 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)  accepted Munich as a candidate city to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games on June 22, 2010, reconfirming Germany's status as a world-class host of international sporting events. The IOC will decide on the 2018 host city on July 6, 2011 at a plenary meeting in Durban, South Africa.
