Mark your calendars: In just under a month the House of World Culture (Haus der Kulturen der Welt) in Berlin will present the winners of its International Literature Prize. Since 2009, the prize has been awarded to the author of an outstanding foreign-language work of international prose fiction and its translator.

The German Fashion Industry Foundation announces its 2013 call for participants for the European Fashion Award. This year's theme is “SEXes” and explores how men's and women's fashion are interconnected. The winning prize is valued at 80,000 Euro. The submission deadline is October 25, 2012.

It is time to vote online for your favourite pictures in “KLICK!", Deutsche Welle's photo contest on culture and education. The contest is being held as part of its Global Media Forum (June 25-27) and features photographs from around the world that will be used to create an online photo atlas. Voting closes on May 30th.

Germany's largest and most prominent digital gathering will take place from May 2-4 in Berlin. For the sixth consecutive year, bloggers worldwide will convene for re:publica 12. The theme of this year's conference is Action! Prominent German political figures will be present at the event and Africa too takes the stage.

To mark the 300th anniversary in 2012 of Frederick the Great (1712-1786), an extensive jubilee exhibition will take place in Potsdam from April 28 to October 28. The “Friederisiko” exhibition is on show in more than 70 rooms of the New Palace and in Sanssouci Park, providing insights into the everyday life of one of the most outstanding yet controversial figures in German history.

After its first successful year, the “International Academy of Journalism” (Intajour) has announced a call for applications for its second class. Journalists worldwide may now apply online for the 2012 fellowships. The training program takes place over ten months beginning in September, with three sections taught in Germany. Application deadline is May 7.

Germany as a destination is more popular than ever achieving impressive figures despite the tough global economic situation. 63,8 million overnight stays by foreign visitors equates to a 6 percent increase compared to 2010. This figure is reflected in the increase of South African overnight stays in Germany by 5,1 percent in 2011.

Joint Adventures is calling for submissions for the fifth Choreographic Captures Competition, a competition that encourages artists to explore “new aesthetic approaches and visual languages for choreography and film”. The competition is open to artists from all over the world. It is supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
