Professional training for tomorrow's African business leaders

Recognising the continent's potential, Afrika Kommt! promotes exchange between African future leaders and German industry, laying a foundation for sustainable economic cooperation in the future. Approximately 20 promising young African professionals are chosen to go to Germany and participate in a professional training program with 19 leading international firms. The year-long program focusses on practical professional training at the companies, including a significant component committed to formal language training in German.
Afrika Kommt! The sequel
The second year-long professional training program in Germany for up-and-coming Africans is underway for 2011-2012. Initiated in 2008, “Afrika Kommt!” successfully prepares promising professionals in top German companies, with both language training and hands-on experience. There are currently 17 participants from sub-Saharan Africa in Germany as part of the program.
Afrika Kommt 2011-12
Afrika Kommt!has provided participants from its 2008-2009 programme a wealth of experience and opportunities. Three West African participants, recently returned from the two-week follow-up session in Germany, share their stories of how the year in a high-powered, professional training program influenced their lives.
Returning Afrika Kommt! participants find success at home
A young Namibian information technology expert was among the first group of 20 participants from nine sub-Saharan African countries who benefited from a new professional training program in Germany with 19 leading international firms. The second round of this exceptional professional development program will begin in June 2011.
Namibian benefits from “Afrika Kommt!”
Lucy Mutinda, Lorna Ndei, Juddy Akinyi and Mercy Migwi are four Kenyan professionals who were selected to participate in the Afrika Kommt! Program. They learned German as well as received practical and theoretical training at four different leading German companies over the course of a year. They have since returned to their homes in Kenya and sat for an interview with the GIC. Here they share their observations, experiences, insight and future plans.
