Enlarge image The Climate Change Conference in Durban (COP 17/CMP 7) paved the way for a legally-binding climate agreement between all countries following long and tough negotiations. From the close of this deal on December 11, 2011, the world turned its eyes to Qatar and COP18 at the end of 2012. Germany, a respected leader in international climate diplomacy, will continue to pursue completion of the Durban package and for limiting climate change to the 2 degree threshold.

From Copenhagen to Durban (COP17)

The COP17 conference on climate change took place in Durban from November 28 to December 9, 2011. Germany's main goal at COP17 was the conclusion of a legally binding post-2012 climate protection regime limiting the average global rise in temperature to 2° Celsius compared with pre-industrial levels. Climate partnership and promise in focus at the “German Hour” during COP17

 Germany hosted a daily programme at the COP17 climate conference in Durban which offered a wide variety of panel discussions drawing attention to the most pressing topics in climate change. “Germany: Land of ideas” comprised eleven different panel discussions that raised the debate about specific responses to climate change.
