The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg has launched a brand new state-of-the-art library, including a Gamebox and a creative innovation hub called Hub@Goethe! The German cultural-language institute is currently accepting applications from individual or group creative projects and tech-driven startups for a free six month residency. This call is open to all creatives, innovators, developers and entrepreneurs with sustainable projects.

Football ambassadors shape Germany’s image all over the world. German footballers and trainers actively bridge borders. On May 18, there was an award ceremony for the winners of the “German Football Ambassador." Horst Kriete, who was a technical advisor to the South African Football Association SAFA from 1997-2002, won this prestigious award.

The European Film Festival is back for the 4th time at Cinema Nouveau theatres in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban from May 5 - 14. Each European film reflects the skills and take on the world of filmmakers who are not limited by national borders. The line-up of films represents 12 countries, including Germany's official entry into the category Best Foreign Film 2017.
